What is the 1000 Podcast Listeners in 100 Days Challenge?
The challenge is basically undertaking different kinds of marketing activities to get 1000 listeners in 100 days. 1000 listeners will be defined as 1000 downloads for each episode and/or 1000 people subscribed through email.
I am setting myself a challenge of getting 1000 listeners for the Key To Authority podcast in the next 100 days, currently the podcast averages around 50-70 downloads per episode.
Throughout the next 100 days I will be blogging about what I have got planned, what actions I am taking and what is working and what isn’t. I have no idea how I am going to do it, I will be figuring it out on the way and that is why this is exciting
My Goal: By the 21st of December 2016, I will have gained 1000 more listeners for the Key To Authority Podcast. In doing so I will have built a great foundation for my business.
Why I am setting myself this podcast growth challenge?
I had launched my first episode of the Key To Authority podcast in April 2015 and after publishing 53 episodes in Feb 16 I decided to hit the brakes and review everything in my business. I was unsure if it was going in the right direction and whether I was doing anything useful. At the same time I was also thinking about leaving my fulltime job and taking the plunge into becoming a full time entreprener.
After lots of soul searching, doing the calculations (money in the back) and getting advice from my mentors and mastermind I decided on taking a staged approach to transition from my full time employment. Now I am working 4 days in the job and have had a good look at how I want to progress with the business.
Due to the lack of momentum for the past six months with the podcast, the restart is almost like starting a new podcast. With this challenge I want to prove that any podcast can easily grow to 1000 listeners and it can be done in quite a short time. Also it will be helping me build a great foundation for the business.
Why 1000 listeners? According to Rob Walch VP of Podcaster Relations at libsyn.com (the largest podcast media hosting company) in September of 2013 a podcast episode that has been live approximately 30 days averages 141 downloads. So getting 1000 downloads per episode is quite a challenge, and I want to find out how it can be made possible.
Why 100 days? Its about the time available and being realistic with the current commitments I have from my job and the business. It is also enough time to see results of activities that take a while to kick into affect (search engine optimisation, blogging, etc.).
How I am going to go about completing the podcast growth challenge?
For the first 10 days of the challenge; I am going to research the great internet on how to approach this, ask for advice from fellow podcasters, add mix it up with my internet marketing experience of past six years and then formulate a plan of attack for the next 90 days.
